Prince—or the artist formerly known as the Artist Formerly Known as Prince—has followed in the footsteps of U2 and is releasing his own version of the iPod Touch. Called “The Limited Edition Prince Opus iPod”, they are only available in limited release through Kraken Opus, a high-end book manufacturer. Unlike the U2 collectible iPod, Apple.com will not be involved in the sale of Prince’s creations.
At a cost of $2,100, the Prince iPod is, naturally, Prince’s signature purple and comes pre-loaded with 15 songs, 40 minutes of concert footage from Prince’s 21 Nights concert at London’s O2 Arena in 2007, and comes with a book of Prince photos, according to Wired.com. Only 950 of them have been made, making them a collector’s item for Prince fans.
In addition, Prince is also releasing the “Prince Opus Number One”, billed on PrinceOpus.com as “the greatest artwork of the 21st century”. This piece features a cover with 21 D-color diamonds and 5 purple diamonds totaling 7.7 carats. The diamonds are encased with platinum in the shape of Prince’s logo. This diamond and platinum logo will be removable so the buyer can wear it if he chooses. The case is finished with an alligator binding and purple silk lining. According to Luxist.com, this one-of-a-kind piece will be auctioned off later this year. There have been no reports yet regarding any price it might receive at auction.
