Investments in High-End Watches Offer Hope to Luxury Market

It’s no secret that the luxury industry is hurting; however, people should look beyond a luxury piece of jewelry as a fashion statement only. Even being an owner of online diamond boutique, Whiteflash.com, is difficult because people view jewelry as fashion only. Jewelry can also be viewed as an “investment”, especially luxury timepieces. Luxury timepieces are viewed as something to keep in the family. From personal experiences, I know men usually pass down their watch to their son, and then he passes it on to his son, and so on. Try not only view timepieces as fashion item, but as investment piece that may stay with you and your family for a while.

Francois Thiébaud, president of the Swiss Exhibitors Committee and president of Tissot watch worldwide, said one good thing coming out of the financial crisis is “the return to traditional values” in watch making and selling, by both consumers and watchmakers. “There’s less extravagance, less emphasis on price and more on craftsmanship,” he said in an interview in JCK Online.

In addition, brands spend a lot of time investing their in labor and finding the right materials to make their watches desirable to consumers and retailers. The best raw materials are used and some of the most durable metals are fined tune to ensure the piece’s durability from generation to generation. Also – it takes time to find that one “unique” factor to make watches stand out in the luxury market.

However, few achieve this uniqueness. Here are some great pieces that I have come across:

Perrelet’s Tourbillon watch (above) is a true example of fine watch-making. A masterpiece as an exceptional article. Remaining true to the aesthetic lines that characterize the brand, the Tourbillon presented by Perrelet pushes back technical limitations to their extremes, translating the mastery and creativity of the brand into reality.

One watch on the market that I have noticed, and definitely admired is Christian Tse’s digital watch covered in shimmering diamonds. While the white diamond watch with the white stingray strap is stunning and elegant, I find myself drawn to the python print watch, covered in natural color diamonds. The shades of champagne colored natural color diamonds are a refreshing visual on the python print watch. In addition, the champagne diamond encrusted watch is so unique, yet still very versatile. With the digital time glowing through a blanket of diamonds, this watch is definitely one of the ultimate luxuries I have come across!

Not quite a luxury timepiece, but I am a woman and this story is about investing in jewelry. Plus it just caught my eye. It’s a bracelet designed and created by Yael Sonia and made of 18K yellow karat gold. I wanted to show this off as it would compliment any outfit and look great next to a small wrist watch. And I would definitely pass this down to my daughter. It’s that beautiful.

So whether you’re a fashionista trying to be more budget conscious, a watch connoisseur or just a luxury fan, spend your money wisely. Don’t only buy something because its an “it” item, but think about your purchase. Inspect the quality and the timeless appeal. You’re spending big bucks on an accessory, make sure it something that you want to keep “in the family.”

A Suprise Engagement

Hey James!

The proposal went better than I could have ever imagined.  After 5 years of dating and 3 months of planning, it all culminated into 1 perfect surprise.  My fiancé gets compliments left and right on the ring.  Her ring is by far the most "sparkly."  Thanks for everything again, in literally finding a "diamond in the rough."

Feel free to post it on the blog.  The details were as follows.  I had my fiancé’s friends plan a day to go on a "photo shoot," and so just thinking it was merely a time with her girlfriends, I showed up, waiting by the cove at Little Corona Del Mar beach and surprised her.  Here's a few series of pictures I had taken.

Thanks again for everything James.  I don't think we'll have a wedding date set for some time, but when we do, I'll let you know.

~ Tommy

Whiteflash Flourishing Through Innovation - JQ Magazine

During a holiday season that was disappointing to sellers across the board, an online jewelry company actually experienced better-than-expected receipts - and are even anticipating an increase in their revenue for 2009. Whiteflash has not done this well by accident.

"A lot of folks are in survival mode right now," says Debi Wexler, CEO of online jewelry retailer Whiteflash.com, "but you have to be in fight mode to win the customer in the right way." Since its particular battleground in online, the tech-savvy company utilizes a lot of social media to connect with its customers. "When we dress a celebrity with our product, we put it on MySpace, Facebook, or Youtube to showcase [it]," reveals Wexler, "We also twitter about new products."

Whether online or on the street, every store owner has to figure out how to stand out. For Whiteflash.com, the retail adage "location, location, location" has taken a whole new meaning. In order to be top of mind, the e-tailer realizes the need to be everywhere its prospects are. "It's all about connecting with the customer in a variety of ways. That's how we ended up seeing an increase in sales, regardless of the economic situation," Wexler explains. Of course, brick-and-mortar locations could - and should - use all of the same avenues to reach out to prospects in the area.

This company has realized that it's not enough anymore to simply do things better; the key for Whiteflash has been finding ways to do things differently. Tough times call for creativity, but luckily, user review sites and social networking are free. The trade-off is a regular time commitment to connect with potential customers in order to be that "right place, right time." The winner in this game are those who continue to evolve every day, meeting their customers' needs in new ways in an ever-changing environment.

A Rare Flawless Blue 7 Carat Diamond at Auction

Sotheby’s is offering a 7.03 carat fancy vivid blue diamond for auction on May 12 at its “Magnificent Jewels” event in Geneva, Switzerland.  The diamond is expected to fetch up to $8.5 million, and prior to the auction it will be on display in Hong Kong, Paris, London, and New York.

The rare blue diamond belongs to Petra Diamonds Ltd and was found in 2008 at the Cullinan diamond mine in South Africa, which is known for producing blue diamonds.  The 7.03 carat diamond was cut from a larger 26.58 rough stone.

David Bennett, head of Sotheby’s jewelry in Europe and the Middle East stated that the blue diamond up for auction “certainly ranks among the most important blue diamonds that I have had the privilege of offering for sale.”  The Gemological Institute of America has graded the diamond as fancy vivid blue in color and internally flawless in clarity.

In October 2007, Sotheby’s sold a 6-carat blue emerald diamond in Hong Kong for nearly $8 million.

Kendra Wilkinson's Bro to Walk Her Down the Aisle

After much speculation, it appears Hugh Hefner will not give Kendra Wilkinson away on her wedding day to Hank Baskett.

"I would definitely love for him to walk me down [the aisle]," Kendra tells E!'s Daily 10 of Hef's offer, but adds that she decided her brother would ultimately be a better choice.

"I think it would mean a lot to my family and me down the line," the bubbly blonde says. "It just makes more sense."

So does Hef have any hard feelings about the change of plans?

It doesn't sound like it, since they're still getting married at the Playboy Mansion. "Hef loves Hank," Kendra tells E! News, revealing that the two men in her life share another common interest—both are big fans of the comic book character Flash Gordon.

One subject Hef and Hank don't agree on? Reality TV. Kendra says she can't wait for her spin-off show to start this summer on E! but her fiancé isn't as eager. “It’s hard for him. He's a football player,” says Kendra.

And although her own love life is going great, Kendra can't help but reflect on Holly Madison's split with Criss Angel.

“It sucks that they broke up, and I hope she finds what she was looking for,” says Kendra. “I don't know what happened. I hope she finds happiness. She is a great person with so much love to give.”

Kendra says she loves showing off her diamond engagement ring and can’t wait for the wedding,
